Inquisitor is our next-generation Trivia bot, being designed almost entirely based on feedback from this channel. In short, Inquisitor exists because of this channel.
The ideas, discussions, frustrations, and late night brainstorming that happened here are what pushed the project from "maybe someday" into reality. Running trivia in this channel made it clear what worked well, what felt outdated, and what simply could not be fixed within the limits of an aging bot. We tried improving what we had. We experimented with add-ons, workarounds, and secondary bots. Some ideas worked temporarily, others hit hard limits that could not be crossed without breaking core functionality. Every challenge revealed the same truth: the bot itself was the bottleneck.
Rather than continue patching around those limits, Inquisitor was created from the ground up using the ideas and challenges that came directly from this channel. Faster gameplay. Cleaner questions. Better control. More flexibility. All the things we wanted but could not realistically build on top of a legacy script.
All active development and early testing will take place on Inquisitor’s own IRC network, details here. This allows features to evolve quickly without disrupting live games or communities. Once Inquisitor reaches feature completeness and stability, final testing will be brought back here shortly before launch. This channel will be among the first to run real games and stress-test the bot in a familiar environment.
Inquisitor is being built by people who care about trivia and IRC, but more hands make better software.
We are looking for:
Testers who enjoy trivia and want to help identify bugs, balance gameplay, and shape features
Python developers who want to contribute code, ideas, or improvements to a real-time IRC project
If you've ever said "I wish the trivia bot could do this" in this channel, this is your chance to help build it. Take a look at our development roadmap (COMING SOON!), and submit your ideas using the current bot's '-idea' command. Staff will review these submissions, and your suggestion might even make it into Inquisitor!
This channel sparked Inquisitor.
We want it to help finish it.
